Rugged Refinement

rugged refinement

In the wine country hills of Glen Ellen, The Wiseman Group conceived an agrarian compound as an extension of its gardens—a cluster of barn-like forms that hug the landscape and reveal themselves slowly along meandering paths, like a Northern California farmstead. Serving as both architect and designer, TWG drew its concept from crystalline formations emerging from rough coastal stone—a nod to the client's fascination with geology: monochromatic and rustic without, refined and jewel-like within. Cristallo Quartzite, rift-sawn white oak, board-formed concrete, and rough-hewn stone sustain a dialogue between the raw and the pristine, while a sculptural inverted-barrel ceiling brings the soaring volumes into balance. Throughout, the palette echoes the seasons of the land: light, fog, sun, and water.
