LUIS ALVES - Associate Design Director

“I was completely overwhelmed the first time I visited the Vatican in Rome,” says Luis Fernando Alves, who in addition to being enamored with what he considers “the most unforgettable space of all time,” is by definition a man of the world.

Born in Brazil, the Associate Design Director for TWG spent four years in a Jesuit seminary before landing in London for a six-year stint as a sous chef—a time during which he traveled vigorously, steeping himself in the aesthetics, histories, and narratives of many countries. Inspired by his exposure to European classical architecture and design, Luis left the Old World for the New and graduated from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco with a BFA in Interior Architecture & Design.

Today he applies his painstaking eye to an array of accoladed spaces, including a modern residential project in Palm Springs that earned Luxe Magazine Gold List recognition, along with high-end homes in Carmel, California, and Hawaii. For Luis, timeless design is good design, but this keen culturist admires an eclectic design aesthetic, as well, and he uses antique and modern art pieces to support his designs while maintaining their simplicity and sophistication.

With patience and mindful listening “fundamental” to his work, Luis laughs and admits that, despite the time, emotions and resources involved in a project, he does not rattle easily. “Design is a sharing and learning experience—a creative process with meaningful value.”
